Tobacco as a quick remedy

Growing up in rural Southeast Georgia I got stung a lot! I remember my father slapping wet tobacco from the big wad he happened to be chewing directly on a bumble bee sting and the pain stopped almost immediately! I heard years later that this remedy for bites and stings or removing the poison from rattlesnake bite is in the U.S. Army Ranger handbook... Don't know if my story qualifies as a
poultice example? but this was my experience as a child! I can attest that it works quite well on bee,wasp and other stings...
