Believe it or not, this switchel recipe has been around for centuries! This ginger and apple cider vinegar beverage was also called Haymaker's Punch as it was served to the farmers harvesting hay on a hot summer day due to it's thirst quenching abilities.
Since I'm not a big fan of the taste of vinegar I was surprised by how good this tastes! Here's a recipe for a small batch that you can try. Who knows, your kids might even like this healthy drink!
Switchel Recipe
2 Tablespoons organic apple cider vinegar
1/4 teaspoon organic ground ginger (I'm going to try adding some vanilla extract to my next batch!) If using fresh grated ginger about 1 teaspoon but you'll probably want to strain it before drinking.
4 teaspoons sweetener - pure maple syrup (my favorite), molasses, honey or sugar
1 cup water
Combine all ingredients in a glass jar then cover and refrigerate for a least a couple hours. Shake or stir before serving over ice. I like to dilute it with some water but you could use soda water if you like a sparkling beverage.
So simple and so tasty!!
