THE SUNSHINE VITAMIN
What an enjoyable way to get your daily dose of vitamin D!

The sunshine vitamin is said to boost your immune system, fight depression and certain types of cancers, strengthen bones, aid in absorbing calcium and so much more. Some medical journals state that the majority of people worldwide suffer from vitamin D deficiency!

It's becoming more and more widely known that vitamin d deficiency can cause a huge array of symptoms. Maintaining a normal vitamin d level can alleviate many of these discomforts.

To list just a few...

  • Depression
  • Low energy & fatigue
  • Mood swings
  • Sleep irregularities
  • Intestinal concerns
  • Muscle pain
  • Weak bones
  • SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Frequent colds and flu
  • Etc, etc, etc...

Recent studies show that proper levels of Vitamin D can prevent the flu, colds, infections and even cancer!

Are you wondering what foods contain vitamin d? The answer is very few. Eggs, cold water fish and shitake mushrooms contain good amounts of vitamin d but your main source is sunshine. Your body creates vitamin d after sunlight is aborbed through the skin.

You may also wonder what the causes of vitamin d deficiency are but I'm sure you've guessed. It is simply not enough time spent outdoors in the sun! You can also correctly assume that the people (and critters) who live in the northern hemisphere are the most deficient in vitamin d.

The good news is that there is a simple answer to getting enough of the sunshine vitamin! I'm sure you've heard that a little sunshine can lift your spirits. It's true! Not only that but some direct sunshine on your skin produces all the vitamin D you need. Ten to fifteen minutes of midday sun on your face, hands and arms (without sunblock!) each day is your natural source of vitamin D. Be careful if you haven't been out in the sun much prior to this. You don't want to have to use a sunburn remedy!

The health benefits of vitamin d are huge even if you live in Florida and don't get outside much have your vitamin d level checked. Office workers, invalids, your housepets or anyone who doesn't get ouside much should consider taking a vitamin d supplement.

Tips

If you have any kind of medical condition you may want to ask your doctor to check your vitamin D levels.

Some people may find it hard to get out in the sun everyday and wish to take a supplement instead. Make sure the supplement also includes calcium as it works hand in hand with vitamin D. Do not exceed the daily dose because even though your body can rid itself from excess natural D (from sunshine) it cannot when in supplement form.

It is always best to seek the advise of your medical doctor before taking any supplements especially if you suffer from a medical condition.
