Did you know that the average American adult will recieve around 41 POUNDS of junk mail over the next year? Only about 22% of which gets recycled and the other 4.33 million tons goes into our landfills! That is startling enough without thinking about the number of trees that were cut down or the pollution that went into processing all that paper.
The good news is that there are steps you can take to greatly reduce if not stop getting junk mail! You can either take the time to do it yourself or pay a small fee (usually around $1.00) to do it for you. I'll give you both options.

For a fee of $41 this nonprofit company will take you off numerous lists for 5 years and give a portion of the money to an environmental organization of your choice.
Direct Marketing Association
The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) is a trade association of businesses who advertise their products and services directly to consumers by mail, telephone, magazine, Internet, radio or television. DMA doesn't do mailings but the members do. They will add your name and address to a "delete" file and charge you $1 for the service.

Filling out their form will stop all those prescreened / preapproved credit card offers that you never even look at! You can also call them @ 1-888-5-OPTOUT.
VALPAK mailers
You know those thick blue envelopes filled with mostly useless coupons? This is a another free postal junk mail stop website but you must enter your name and address exactly as it appears on the Valpak envelope.
Valassis
This is the company that most of those store flyers addressed to "Resident" come from. It's called the Red Plum Mailing list and to stop getting junk mail from them you can send them an email or call them @ 1-888-241-6760.
Catalog Choice
This eco-friendly, free website has a growing list of catalogs that you can opt-out of or even opt-in. Very cool!
Precycle
This is another green way to stop postal junk mail but this one will cost you $36.00. For the money they will stop the majority of your junk mail, plant 5 trees and give you a green shopping bag plus two energy efficient light bulbs.
