According to Dr. Mecola the recommended amount of Vitamin D3 is as follows:
Below age 5 35 units of Vitamin D per pound per day
Age 5 - 10 2500 units
Age 18 - 30 5000 units
Pregnant Women 5000 units
These amounts are suggested but the only way to really know how much you need is to have your blood tested. Ideally your blood level of 25 OH D should be 60ng/ml.
I haven't been tested yet but I've noticed that my mood has improved greatly since taking 5000 units of D3 per day!
