Honey Benefits Health and Beauty

Bees Love Clover!

There are many ways honey benefits health and beauty. Honey remedies have been used for centuries! In fact honey is an ancient Hebrew word meaning "enchant". An enchanting natural remedy it is! Not only is it a wonderful sweetener but it contains many healing properties as well.

Honey is made up of fructose, glucose, beeswax, water, pollen, enzymes and proteins. It has very little pesticides or other toxins because exposed bees usually die before returning to the hive. One more good reason to stop using all those yard and garden chemicals! We need bees to pollinate our flowers and important food crops including fruits and vegetables.

Honey benefits health best when you purchase locally made honey and is usually available in the health food section of your supermarket or the farmers market. (If you wish to purchase the very best honey, Manuka honey is said to be the best in the world. Manuka Honey is produced by New Zealand bees that collect nectar from the Manuka Bush or Tea Tree and for this reason has added benefits.) Honey can be used for cooking also but keep in mind that heat will destroy a lot of the beneficial properties.

***Apitherapy is the term used for any kind of honey treatment. Let's learn some apitherapy for both health and beauty!

Honey should not taken by diabetics or children under 2. Diabetics because of honeys high fructose and glucose level and infant children because raw honey is said to contain a bacteria, although harmless, may be dangerous for anyone younger than 2 years old.

Taking a tablespoon of raw honey on a regular basis or as needed is said to

  • Calm and promote deep sleep when taken in the evening
  • Relieve indigestion
  • Treat cardiovascular disease
  • Dissolve mucus
  • Replenish energy and increase stamina

HONEY FOR ANXIETY, drink 1 cup of orange juice with 1 teaspoon of honey and a pinch of nutmeg powder twice daily.

To heal ORAL ULCERS, apply 1 teaspoon honey and a pinch of turmeric to canker sores, mouth ulcers, or sores on the tongue as a poultice. This mixture will generate saliva and draw out toxins; spit it out to speed the healing process. For internal ulcers, mix a cup of warm milk with a teaspoon of honey twice daily.

Honey Remedy for ASTHMA OR OTHER RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS - Mix 1 teaspoon finely chopped thyme with a teaspoon of honey. Take as needed to soothe airways and lungs. This is a great decongestant also!

HONEY CURE FOR WOUNDS - Honey contains a germ killing substance called inhibine. It works great to prevent infections and promote healing. Simply spread on cuts and abrasions and cover.

HONEY MEDICINE FOR COLDS & FLU - Here's a powerful, homemade tea for fighting any type of virus. Tastes great too!

HONEY CURE FOR HANDS - Wash your hands with warm water the rub briskly with a coarse washcloth to exfoliate. While skin is damp apply a mixture of 1 teaspoon honey and 1 teaspoon organic olive oil. Cover hands with plastic bag or gloves and leave on for 30 minutes and you'll have wonderfully soft hands!

Did you know? To make one pound of honey, a swarm of honeybees flies about 24,000 miles and visits 3 to 9 million flowers. It could be said that honey benefits health in humans and our whole planet!
