A native elder suggested sumac syrup for my son's cough: equal parts sugar and brewed sumac tea, simmer until reduced to 1/2 or less and has syrupy consistency.
Thanks for the tip! We can learn so much from our Elders if we take the time to listen. We have a couple pages about making syrup. One is on making a simple syrup and the other is specifically on making homemade cough syrup. You have me curious enough to try the sumac syrup. Thanks again!

I was raised on this cough syrup and it really works well. We used raw honey instead of sugar. I'm now 62 yrs old and still make it every years for my children, grand children, and myself. Best medicine ever!
