As a child growing up in the 60's I was always running around barefooted during the Summer. I remember ignoring a small cut on the bottom of my foot until I noticed a red line running up my foot. Instead of going to the Doctor for a tetanus shot, my Mother soaked my foot in hot water with Epsom salt. She then wrapped my wound in a bread, sugar and milk poultice. Within a few days, the infection was gone and I was back on the dirt streets again shoeless.
