One of the main banana health facts you should know is that they are one of nature's super nutrients!

Bananas are not only rich in potassium but have a good dose of vitamin B6 also.

Here's a list of nutrients in one medium banana:

  • Sodium - only 1 mg
  • Carbs - 25 g
  • Selenium - 1.3 mcg
  • Fiber - 3 g
  • Protien - 1 g
  • Vit A - 2%
  • Vitamin B - 34%
  • Vitamin C - 12%
  • Calcium - 1%
  • Iron - 2%
  • Potassium - 12%
  • Magnesium
  • and Iodine

Are bananas good for you? They are excellent! Here's what bananas are lacking:

  • Fat - 0%
  • Satuarated Fat - 0%
  • Cholesterol - 0%

Did you know that bananas contain seratonin? Yep, that same chemical that reduces stress and anxiety! In fact it's said that eating one banana a day can help prevent and fight:

Here's a quick banana dessert recipe:Lightly saute sliced bananas in orange juice and sprinkle with ground cinnamon or nutmeg. How simple is that?

Beyond Banana Health Facts

Ever used a banana poultice?

  • Try applying the inside skin of a banana peel to bruises. Hold in place with a bandage and change it for a fresh one after an hour. This will lessen pain and discoloration plus speed healing.
  • Try the same process for minor cuts and scrapes!
  • Apply the inside of the banana peel to poison ivy. Change peel about every hour for a full day.

How about a banana facial?Mash up part of the inside of a banana and add a few drops of olive oil. Apply to face and leave on for 20 - 30 minutes before washing. Haven't tried this yet but it's said to moisturize skin and reduce wrinkles!

Where do bananas grow?Bananas grow on trees and are native to tropical South and Southeast Asia and are likely to have been first domesticated in Papua New Guinea. Today, they are cultivated throughout the tropics. They are grown in at least 107 countries, primarily for their fruit and to a lesser extent to make fiber, banana wine and as ornamental plants.
